Edison New Jersey is being extremely rainy and gross today, so what better chance to blog about the last couple days. I know you're all dying to know what went down.
The weekdays were a little more chill than the weekend. But let me tell you the details.
On wednesday my female body decided to declare war on me. Really bad cramps going on. Unfortunately neither John or Nicole could drive me to the pharmacy. "Selbst ist die Frau" so I took the bicycle out of the basement and got on it. Let me tell you something. Germany is a great place to ride a bike, the roads are even and smooth. In the States they are NOT.
I know I'm not the fittest person but that ride should not have been this hard. It was only 3,4 miles, estimated 17 minutes on Google.
I think it took me half an hour and I arrived at CVS super exhausted.
I got my female medicine and other stuff and went back.
This time I took one of the bigger streets, cause I saw it had a bike path. It was downhill and I didn't have wind coming from the front anymore so I was a lot faster.
When I was back at the house I said goodbye to the Vagina Killer (the name I gave the bike) and took a nice shower. Funny enough after that workout I didn't have any cramps anymore.
But I'm glad I got the medicine cause I wanted to bring some back to Germany since it's the only stuff so far that helped me. After the shower I spent most of the afternoon in the yard getting some sun. A little too much maybe. I got all dizzy and had to lie down =) I don't remember what I did on thursday but let me tell you about the wonderful weekend.
Friday: In the morning I packed my stuff for my trip to Millburn and around 3pm James came to pick me up. He wanted to drop something off and go to his moms place real quick. It made me a little sad that his mom didn't quite remember me. After that we went to a salon in Garwood. James wanted to get his eyebrows and nails done. The girl who was responsible for that was the sweetest human being I have ever met. She was so full of positive energy it's not even funny. I can't even describe it. Her aura must be bright green. She also cut James' bangs for free and asked me if she could touch my hair. She also gave me a free hairstyle just for shits and giggles. Just a little hairspray here and there and a bit of styling, no cutting. I loved it. On our way to Millburn I got my "hostmom" some flowers and earlier that day we saw this cutie:
When we entered Millburn I got this weird feeling. You know, when you lived somewhere for a while, then staying at another place for years and then you finally return. Seeing all the familar streets and buildings. It's a super weird feeling. I was able to name most streets we took to get to the house. And I already saw that the town changed a little. Unfortunately my favorite sushi place went out of business. I remember Josh took me there for our first date and I immediately fell in love with this place. Too bad it doesn't exist anymore.
When we finally made it up to the house I got a little nervous. I haven't seen "my family" in over 3 years. When I was an Aupair the kids were 5 and 9 years old. Now theyre 13 and 16. So weird.
I rang the doorbell, also a really weird feeling, ringing the doorbell at a place you lived for a over a year. Alysse opened the door and it was soooo good to see her. Everyone came to the door. Seeing Bridget was shocking. She's grown up so much. Matthew already hit puberty the last time I saw him so he didn't change THAT much. We just hung out in the kitchen and talked about my time in the States. Then we ordered chinese food. I didn't even need to look at the menue and Alysse didn't even need to ask me what I wanted. As always "orange flovoured chicken". So far it's the best I've ever had. No other place makes it as good. If you ever get the chance to stroll through Millburn, New Jersey make sure you stop by at Jade Lake , it's really damn good.
That night we just chilled and talked about what happened in the past couple years. I went to bed around midnight in my old room with a beautiful view. It was a good day.
On Saturday Alysse and I went to Trader Joe's in the morning. In case you don't know it, it's a grocerie store and I think it only has organic stuff. I remember that Aldi sold a couple things from Trader Joe's in Germany.
Anyways we got back and all of us exept Bridget went on a hike at the South Mountain Reservation .
The house is already on the hill but the reservation is a totally different story. That thing is no joke.
We just started our hike and I already flipped out. I saw japanese knotweed. If you know me and my garden at all you are aware that it is my worst enemy. You just can't get rid of it and it grows faster than you can say "Eiersollbruchstellenverursacher". That stupid weed is following me around the world.
Anyways we continued our hike and chose the "flat" trail. It was NOT flat. It was anything but that, I don't even know what the other option would have looked like. But it was totally worth it. It really is beautiful up there. And also we saw this guy.
Sneaky little bastard. And quick too. At that point I wasn't so sure about that hike anymore. I'm not afraid of snakes (shocking since I'm basically afraid of everything) but snakes aren't the only animals on that mountain. There are bears too. I thought Fuck It, wouldn't be the worst place to die. As you can probably tell I didn't die. Let me show you a couple more pictures from the hike.
We came across this really pretty stream which had such wonderful clear water.
We also found this rock with a cute quote. Aparently they're everywhere around the reservation. The hike was quite exhausting, everytime I said something I sounded like the black kid from Malcom in the middle. I have no idea how those guys weren't out of breath. Well I can think of one reason. Smoking is bad kids, mmkay.
The way down was far easier. And even though my legs were shaking like crazy I had a really fun time.
Back at the house I took a looong shower and had chinese leftovers for lunch enjoying the view.
Then it was time to get ready for the Beerpong Tournament Party in Jersey City. All this ice cream eating started to show. I decided to not go with the croptop and skinny jeans I bought a couple days earlier. I wouldn't have been able to pull it off with my big round belly =)
Honestly I don't mind. My belly just shows I'm enjoying myself and as long as I don't become massively overweight there is nothing wrong with having a little extra junk in the trunk. Also I'm pretty sure I'm gonna loose most of it back in Germany. I'm definitely gonna wear the clothes I bought, because they're amazing. I still went with black skinny jeans, the kimono I bought and short top. Not really that much changed, just the tightness =)
John A picked me up around 2.45 pm and we went to Jersey City. We picked up Hatty on the way and he showed us his favorite parking spot which had an amazing bonus. See for yourself.
Isn't this view just fantastic? I think so. Unfortunately this time I didn't take a google maps screenshot, so I can't tell you exactly where this is. Sorry about that.
When we got to the party it was so good to see everyone again. KT really was a great hostess. She prepared lots of food and snacks, later we even fired up the grill and made hotdogs.
Martin made his famous deviled eggs and they were absolutely delicious, no wonder everyone requested them. What would I give to have one of them right now.
The weather was just perfection for our event. 80F and no clouds in sight. I actually had to sit in the shade cause it was quite hot.
The beerpong tournament started shortly after everyone settled in. I actually found a partner so I could play. Her name is Janele and she was the best beerpong partner I had so far, soon you will find out why.
I think we played John A and Hatty first. We won. Confidence developed. Our second game was against Tom and Julian (I believe), we lost that one. After that it was us against KT and James, we won. Then again John A and Hatty. This was a really close one. We only won it because Janele literally gave it all. She flashed them both for their last shot. Obviously there was no way for them to hit the cup, so we won that game. That meant we would either be first or second place. We had to play Tom and Julian again. Man, that game was tense. I really wanted to beat Tom for more than one reason (no hate). I had no idea how competitive I can get. That was a complete new side of me.
So at the end each team was left with one cup. They got the ball in ours first, which meant we had to hit their cup twice. Janele missed the first one, I got mine in. We had to go again...aaaaaaaannnd CONGRATULATIONS Tom and Julian for winning the beerpong tournament. Unfortunately we missed. But second place guys. I've never got this far. It was a lot of fun and a proud moment for german Jen who only played this game a couple times.
Let me show you a couple pictures from the party:

Julian and Tom, my beerpong partner in crime & KT |
John A and Lawrence |
When it got dark most people were already a bit tipsy. John A fired up the firepit aka the deathstar and Hatty played guitar for a bit.
The best show however offered Martin. His creation of the speaker-freebird-dance was perfection xD
A little earlier that night something weird happened. First a bunch of cops were walking around at the house next to the liquor store and a couple hours later there were THREE!!! firetrucks. But no one had any idea what was going on. A little creepy. Also sad, because: Three firetrucks and not one sexy fireman. Not even one. Jen was sad. I mean what are the odds?
The party went on til like 1am. I blame the fire. We were out of firewood and it got pretty cold. It was a really fun party, I had such a good time, especially since no one got super wasted. Jen approves.
John A didn't drink that much so he was able to drive me back to Millburn. Before that happened we had to take pictures of that wonderful view again.
What a wonderful night it was and the best part was that I was able to sleep alone in a comfortable bed, being able to remove my makeup and brush my teeth. I really was happy about being able to sleep in Millburn. A couple people stayed over at KT's and you know me, I'm not big on sharing a room with lots of people. So that was my saturday. Get ready for the sunday. Lots of pictures to look at.
